And as your plate becomes fuller, so does the risk that you’re going to eventually burn yourself out. Burnout is something almost every business owner or executive experiences at some point in their career, and property managers are no exception. The good news is, this can all be avoided. The key is being able to identify the signs before things get out of hand. Here are three things you need to watch for and what you can do to get back on track.


You can only burn the candle at both ends for so long before it catches up with you, and that usually comes in the way of total and complete exhaustion. When you start to feel as though no matter how much rest you get, you always seem to be running on empty, or when you lose your drive and passion, it’s a sign you’re headed for the ditch.

Feeling Overwhelmed

Let’s face it. The life of a high-level property management professional isn’t easy. While you may have once been able to juggle a multitude of things like a boss, you may now be feeling like it’s simply too much to handle. And when this happens, not only is it a sign that you’re about to crash and burn, but you’re also taking a risk that something important might slip through the cracks, which isn’t good for business.

Anxiety/Panic Attacks

Burnout can leave you feeling as though you’re constantly on edge. When your senses are always in overdrive, you’ll be stressed and riddled with anxiety. You may even experience panic attacks, which can mimic a medical emergency. In any case, none of this is healthy for your body, mind or soul, and it’s definitely a sign that burnout is eminent.

If you’re experiencing any of these things, you’ve probably reached your limit and your body is telling you it’s time to slow down. Here are a few ways you can counteract the signs of burnout and get yourself back to a good place.

  •              – Get regular exercise
  •              – Take some time off
  •              – Get a massage
  •              – Do something you enjoy (i.e. hobby, activity, etc.)

These are just a few of the main things you can do to avoid burnout. Chances are, you’ll find a few more of your own methods for restoring your energy and motivation. Remember, the best way to avoid burnout altogether is to prioritize self-care. Take good care of yourself and you’ll be much more capable of taking care of your property management business.
